Brazil's Petrobas to invest $3.5B to double biofuel output

Brazilian energy giant Petrobras projects that demand for biofuels is expected to grow rapidly over the next ten years and wants to spend 3.5 billion U.S. dollars over the next four years more than double its production of biofuels. In a recent interview, Miguel Rossetto, CEO of energy giant in the biofuel unit Biocombustivel Petrobras:

We are preparing for a scenario where the global demand for biofuels is growing. growth, growth in volume and size of the market for them what is at stake. However, during an expansion of renewable energy markets has given us.

Petrobras plans to spend 2.5 billion U.S. dollars in biofuel production to increase to 80 percent of funding for ethanol and 20 percent for biodiesel. The company will allocate another $ 1 billion for infrastructure development.

Demand for ethanol in Brazil is growing, at least in part, because of the mandate, a pump a mixture of gasoline with 25 percent ethanol (and we have a problem in the U.S. to 15 percent) is required. Moreover, the Brazilian government that diesel must be at least five percent biodiesel (B5) include, but the expectation is that this compound rates will continue to grow in the coming years.
